Smallest Cell Size Thermoplastic Honeycombs Ever

Next to the 3mm cell sized PP honeycomb in a very low thickness of 3 - 3.5mm which has already been marked as a great commercial success, EconCore’s daughter company ThermHex Waben launched now two other configurations of the honeycomb: 5 mm cell diameter for core thickness range from 10 to 12.7mm and 4mm cell size for 4 – 6 mm thick honeycombs.

The smaller cell size enables a perfect surface quality of the laminated sandwich panel and opens new application possibilities for the honeycomb cores. 

EconCore’s licensees are also looking at similar fine cell geometries for their specific application domains as the new geometries prove exceptional good processing at the same time. With conventional, low volume oriented production techniques, honeycomb cores with such small cell sizes are only available for aerospace applications.
